Playlist Promotion on Spotify

In episode #42 of the Music Marketing Manifesto Podcast we chat with Michael Sloane, the CEO of StreamingPromotions.com about the art and science of getting your music on more Spotify playlists.

As many of you know, the streaming promotion landscape is littered with charlatans and low quality promotion services that can hurt your music career more than they help. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about playlist promotion, and Michael and his company go about it the RIGHT way. In this episode Michael offers insight into what he does as a professional playlist promoter, and he also tells us what we need to do if we are going to attempt to go about the process on our own. He offers some great tips and I really think yoo’re going to get a lot out of this one!

I also want to remind everyone that I recently released a 90 minute mini-course on generating income from your music during lockdown, called “The Emergency LTO”, and have added it to the Insider Circle (my private mastermind program). While this normally costs $47/month, I am offering everyone 30 days worth of access for just $1 during lockdown. The $1 charge covers my transaction fees, and gives you complete access to over 100 music marketing lessons, live weekly coaching calls, my private mastermind forum, and more. However, this special Covid-19 discount will expire on Thursday, May 14th. So if you want to take advantage of this special $1 offer, now is the time.

  • Great episode. Interesting company, seems legit. It’s cool they filter people. I always enjoy your questions John, always very accurate and useful.

The general thing I don’t know how to solve with Spotify, is what you guys were talking about at the end of the podcast…. how do you turn your listeners, or subscribers, into fans outside of spotify (even if it’s a small percentage of them) ? Get more info about them. Build relationships.

On your Spotify artist profile you can’t add your personal website. You can only add Socials (IG, FB, Twitter and Wikipedia). So it seems hard to have people sign up to your mailing list for example and/or get added to a funnel, coming from Spotify. You have to connect with them on social. Not always easy + it seems like for radio before, 90 % of people listen to 3 % of the artists on Spotify. So is it really worth the battle ?

    Just a thought… 😉 Obviously I don’t have the answer!
Thanks for the great podcasts always lots of fun to listen to.

Good stuff but more importantly, I want to encourage everyone to sign up for the insider circle. I just joined and getting so much knowledge and value out of this. It’s literally years of lessons and he quickly answers any questions you may have on any of them.

This couldn’t have come at a better time for me! It really helped make something that is a bit confusing, seem simple and clear. Fantastic podcast!
