ABOUT MUSIC MARKETING MANIFESTO

The dictionary defines a MANIFESTO as “a published declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of an individual or group. A manifesto promotes a new idea with prescriptive notions for carrying out changes the author believes should be made.”


After four record deals (Interscope, Universal, Warner Brothers, and Dreamy Draw), John Oszajca found himself disillusioned with the music industry and the if-you-build-it-they-will-come approach that the mainstream music industry seemed to embrace. With an entrepreneurial mind, and a background in promotion, John turned to the internet in 2007 to see if perhaps there might be a better way for independent artists to market their music, without needing to rely on record labels, managers, booking agents, publicists, or any of the other individuals/entities that typically controlled distribution channels for musicians.


After a few years of experimentation John had developed a “direct to fan marketing” approach that was unlike anything else at the time. The strategy has since helped countless artists climb to the top of various sales charts (Billboard, iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby), land Grammy nominations, and more importantly, take control of their music careers, and turn their passion for creating music into profitable, data-driven businesses.


Since launching his site in 2009, John’s “funnel building” strategies have been embraced by thousands of musicians and fellow music marketing educators. His marketing blog, podcast, and stable of educational courses and products are collectively John Oszajca’s personal Music Marketing Manifesto.
