Hi, you may or may not have ever heard of me, but in 1999 I got signed to what was said to be one of the largest new artist record deals in the history of the music business. I experienced every musician’s dream-come-true of signing a major label contract, touring the country and receiving radio and video airplay across the world, only to be dropped a year and a half later because ultimately my album didn’t sell enough copies.

But I didn’t stop there. I persevered and in fact managed to land two more major label deals only to see the release dates come and go, each time with even less effort on the labels part than the album before.

The wheels on my career all but slowed to a stop. It had begun to seem like my career was nearing the end of the line. I decided I had one more album in me that I just had to put out. I recorded it for a mere $7,000 and decided I would just release it on an indie label with no expectations whatsoever. The album was released and it did as you might expect an album to do on a small label with almost no financial support. It did poorly.

But Then Something Happened…

Having accepted the fact that my music career was more or less finished I started looking in to other ways to make money. Uninterested in getting a “real job”, a got suckered in by one of those flashy headlines that promise to teach you how to “make a million dollars on the internet while you sleep” headlines that you see on web sites… well, websites like this one.

I bought the course for about $200 and after reading it, got myself all worked up over the prospect of making mountains of cash for almost no effort at all. I applied the techniques, which basically involved paying for advertising to promote affiliate offers, and low and behold, it worked. Well, actually, it kind of worked. Much to my surprise I sold a few products, but unfortunately I had to spend almost as much as I made on advertising to get the sales. And to make matters worse, the investment was substancial and so too was the risk.

It was fairly obvious that the course I bought was not going make me millions of dollars, and while I soon abandoned the system laid out in the course, it did give me hope.
